Bio Location: shikondestiny.khemetian.org/profiles/cannon/kouga.html
Name: Kouga
Alias: The Wolf Prince
Race: Wolf Youkai
Age: 18 in human years, 200-300 in wolf youkai years
# of Shards: had 3, presently .. None
Abilities:
Transformation - Kouga is able to transform into his wolf youkai form, but may have a chance he may not be able to transform back
Wolves - Kouga can summong his wolf pack to help him kill his enemies/prey
Attacks:
Whirlwind - with his jewel shards, Kouga can move so fast that he can create a whirlwind. He can also use the whirlwind around his legs to attack and blow the opponent back. He can also use the air to jump higher.
Claw Attack - Kouga can use his fingernails like claws, similar to Inuyasha's "Iron Reaver Soul Stealer"
Goraishi - this claw-like weapon is a relic of the youkai-wolf, guarded by the spirits of their male ancestors. With it the ancestors, all of whom are old men wearing wolf skin clothes and skulls over their heads, can communicate with him. It can protect Kouga from outside influences on his shards, but only once. This moment was used up during his battle with the newly merged Naraku and Mouryoumaru. As well, the Goraishi has a powerful unnamed attack, much like Inuyasha's Wind Scar. This weapon has not appeared in the anime series, which ends before this point in the manga. Also it seems to emit divine energy, which is different from the holy energy used by Miroku or the demonic energy used by Inuyasha.
Weapons: A katana on his left hip, the jewel shards, and his wolfen attacks
History/Bio: Kouga is a youkai-wolf, and he is the leader of his tribe. He first appeared shortly after Inuyasha's third battle with Sesshomaru (when he learned the secret of the Kaze no Kizu (Wound of the Wind). Kouga managed to steal a shard of the Shikon no Tama (Jewel of the Four Souls) from a lesser youkai, placing it in his left arm. He then allowed his wolves to slaughter and feed off the villagers, which (as fate would have it) included Rin, the young girl who would later travel with Sesshomaru. When Inuyasha found the ransacked village, he soon found Kouga, and the two fought briefly. During their fight, Kouga noted Kagome's ability to see the shards of the jewel, and soon kidnapped her (along with Shippo), intending her to find more shards for him. He soon fell in love with her and declared her to be "his woman", ignoring her protests. Soon afterward, he lost the shard in his arm, first to one of the Birds of Paradise (which had a shard of its own), and then to Inuyasha after he killed the other youkai. Kagome prevented Inuyasha from killing Kouga, allowing his comrades to get him away, and then stormed off to her own time after Inuyasha made certain remarks about her.
Even though Kouga is mostly in his humanoid form, his true form is a large wolf. Of course, he never shows it for several reasons, possibly because Kagome is always in the way and he doesn't want to hurt her. Another possible reason is that he's not very powerful in his real wolf form. Whatever the reason, it is almost guaranteed that Kpiga will never change back to his real wolf form in the entire manga.
Later, while he was recovering, most of Kouga's tribesmen went to a castle in order to get another piece of the jewel. However, they were all brutally slaughtered by Naraku's second detachment: the wind sorceress Kagura. She then used one to send a fake shard (which was really a crystalized form of shouki (miasma)) back to Kouga, and after jamming it into his left arm, he went to find the one responsible. Upon arriving at the castle, he found Inuyasha covered in the blood of his comrades, and assumed that he was the murderer. The resulting battle was fierce, and nearly ended with the death of both combatants. However, Kôga was badly poisoned by the fake shard, having spread its poison throughout his body due to the increased flow of blood (carrying the poison) through his veins. After Inuyasha was knocked out by Kagura, she then revealed the truth to Kouga, and tried to kill him and take the shards from his legs. However, Inuyasha woke up in time to save him, and with Kagome's purifying arrow he releases the Kaze no Kizu attack, all but destroying Kagura. She barely escaped.
Following this, Kouga began traveling with another pack of wolves and two lieutenants from his tribe, Ginta and Hakkaku (who are unnamed in the manga), now seeking to find and slay Naraku and Kagura, in order to avenge the deaths of his kin. It was about this time when Kouga became somewhat of an ally to the group, though he still irritated Inuyasha.
Kouga and Inuyasha next met when they "cooperate" and destroy Naraku's fourth and fifth detachments, Juromaru and Kageromaru. After this, Kouga next appeared on one of Inuyasha's human nights, when Kagura attacked and stole his jewel shards, seeking to use them as a bargaining chip with Sesshomaru so that he'd destroy Naraku and free her. After Sesshomaru refused to help, Kouga battled Kagura again and regained the shards (much to Inuyasha's displeasure). He later assisted in the battle against the Panther tribe.
Following Naraku's disappearance from his castle, Kouga confronted Inuyasha again, and wound up battling (and destroying) a hair demon: one of Naraku's abandoned parts, discarded during a night of weakness. In the anime, it was at this point when he met another youkai-wolf named Ayame, a female of the northern tribes, whom Kôga had rescued when she was young. He'd also sworn to marry her, something which he only later remembered. She left, but agreed to come back once he'd slain Naraku and avenge his fallen comrades. Despite this encounter, Kouga would continue his pursuit of Kagome. Some time later, Kouga had a brief encounter with Sesshoumaru, which could have turned out badly. However, Sesshoumaru remained unaware that it was Kouga's tribe who'd killed Rin (albeit briefly), and the two avoided a confrontation.
Kouga appeared shortly thereafter when the northern Youkai-Wolf Tribe (including Ayame in the anime version) were attacked by Kyokotsu, the first (and weakest) member of Shichi'nintai (Band of Seven Men) (Viz's name: Band of Seven). He defeated Kyokotsu and drove out his jewel shard, but lost it to one of Naraku's poisonous insects. Kouga would later arrive at Mount Hakurei, and wound up protecting Kagome after Inuyasha ventured inside the sacred barrier protecting the mountain. It was during this time that he fought Ginkotsu, who self-destructed to protect his friend Renkotsu. Once more, Kouga failed to get the shard. After the barrier came down, he went inside the mountain, and was nearly absorbed by Naraku, but Inuyasha saved him (and the jewel shards). They went their seperate ways afterward.
Following the death of Kagura, Inuyasha learned from Kikyo that Midoriko (whose soul is contained within the Shikon Jewel) now planned to have the entire jewel be completed in Naraku's hands, so that it and Naraku could then be purified, destroying both. This put Kouga at risk, since Midoriko was able to stop his legs through his two shards. Upon hearing this, Kouga set off to the graveyard of the youkai-wolves, home of the ancestor spirits. There, after an ordeal in which he proved his intentions to avenge his fallen comrades, Kouga earned a new weapon: the Goraishi, which could protect him from any outside influence on his shards, but only once.
His next appearance took place some time later, when a young youkai-wolf named Kai attempted to steal his jewel shards, luring him back to the site of a youkai-wolf den. Upon learning that Byakuya and a demon had slain all of the wolves and now held Kai's younger brother hostage, Kouga launched into battle with him. After slaying Byakuya's companion demon, Byakuya vanished and Kouga was launched into a fight to save Kai's younger brother from Moryomaru. In the resulting tag battle with Inuyasha, Kouga badly injured Mouryoumaru, shattering a fair portion of his armor, but was injured himself in the process. He then persuaded Ginta, Hakaku, Kai and Shinta (Kai's brother) to leave and join the other tribes. Now that Kagura had paid for killing Kouga's fellow wolf youkai with her life, Kouga had a new reason to go after Naraku; which was to avenge all the different wolf youkai, many of whom were children, that were slaughtered by Byakuya under Naraku's orders. For a while, it seemed that he would be traveling with Inuyasha's group, but after his wounds healed he went off, this time alone.
Shortly after departing, Kouga saw a fully regenerated Mouryoumaru, who escaped without speaking to him (or possibly without even seeing him). After Naraku absorbed Mouryoumaru Kouga was trapped in Mouryoumaru's gigantic hand, which was now being used by Naraku. Naraku was intending to use his shouki to melt Kouga and then to absorb his shards. Naraku's demonic energy had suppressed the Goraishi's powers, however after Kagome used her sacred arrow to purify Naraku's presence over the Goraishi, Kouga was able to use the true power of the Goraishi. Naraku's body erupted as the ancient spirits of the wolf demons rose up and aided Kouga in escaping from Naraku's body. After this Kikyo notes that Kouga had used up the once in a lifetime protection that the Goraishi provided.
-- Recently, Kouga has taken the strange girl {Rianitsu} as his mate, after coming to realize that Kagome was not interested in him. Of course, this realization came AFTER he realized what he had done when he had caught the strange girl..
